Nominations Open as Awards Return to Celebrate Nottinghamshire Village

Ruddington Village Community Partnership has launched this year’s Rudd Awards 2024 to recognise and celebrate the individuals, businesses and community groups that make Ruddington great.

The second ‘Rudd Awards’, organised by Ruddington Village Community Partnership (RVCP) have launched this month (January 2024) and nominations are now open.

With six categories sponsored by locally based companies covering ‘Sports, leisure and culture’, ‘Village retailer or service’, ‘Village hospitality’, ‘Community Group’, ‘Volunteer or Fundraiser’ and ‘Young Person’, the RVCP team hope to build on the success of the inaugural awards in 2022, which attracted more than 100 nominations from Ruddington residents.

Nominations are now open for people to put forward the individuals, groups and businesses that are making a real difference to building a vibrant and prosperous life in the village. The team are particularly keen to hear about those who demonstrate the core values of RVCP which include collaboration, sustainability, innovation, community focus and raising the profile of the village.

A special seventh award, the “Heart of Ruddington” award, sponsored by the event’s lead sponsor Okarno, will be selected by the awards committee. This honour recognises someone who has made an outstanding contribution to Ruddington Village as an exemplary member of the community. In 2022 it was awarded to Ruddington resident Barbara Breakwell for her tireless and selfless commitment to supporting local causes.

Mike Ader, RVCP Chair, comments: “The Rudd Awards showcase and honour the great and good within Ruddington, recognising those who time and time again go the extra mile, helping to raise the profile of the village and help to build its unique identity. The aim is for us to shine a spotlight on those who make the village a great place to live, work and visit. Plus, this year, everyone who submits a nomination will be entered into a prize draw giving 10 lucky people the chance to win a seat at the awards ceremony.”

Nominations are now open and can be made online at www.rvcp.org.uk/awards until 5pm on Sunday 18th February 2024. Paper forms are also available from the Parish Office in St Peter’s Rooms during office hours.

The shortlist will be announced in March and following judging by a local independent panel, the winners will be announced at the awards evening on Friday 17th May 2024 at Ruddington’s St Peters Church, compared by BBC Radio Nottingham’s Verity Cowley.

The awards are one of many community initiatives set up by RVCP as part of its aims to encourage everyone within the community to play an active role in the future of a prosperous, confident village. Other events include the monthly Ruddington Village Market, established in 2018 to boost High Street footfall and bring people into the heart of the community has gone from several stalls in a pub car park to a destination market with over 80 stalls, as well as the Maker’s Night and the Christmas Markets.
